Elevate Epicentral with your art and be a part of Grand Prairie’s fitness revolution
Are you a resident artist or art student in Grand Prairie with a passion for fitness and creativity? The City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department has an exciting opportunity for you to showcase your talents and contribute to a project that will promote wellness and art within the community. We’re thrilled to announce our “Call for Artists” to help design a permanent mural for the new Fitness Courts, coming to six parks across the city, including EpicCentral.
What Are the Fitness Courts?
The City of Grand Prairie has partnered with the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to introduce Fitness Courts, a revolutionary concept aimed at promoting outdoor fitness and community engagement. These state-of-the-art fitness zones are designed to provide a full-body workout in just seven minutes. With seven distinct training zones, the Fitness Court allows individuals of all ages and abilities to engage in a circuit training workout that is fun, accessible, and energizing.
Bringing Art to Fitness
What sets these Fitness Courts apart is that each one will feature a unique, digitally rendered work of art on its multipurpose training walls. The City is looking for six talented artists to contribute to this project, and the chosen artworks will be featured on the training walls of the Fitness Courts in different parks.
This initiative aims to build an outdoor gallery of art, transforming these fitness zones into vibrant, innovative, and engaging spaces that celebrate wellness and fitness. These artworks will not only inspire those using the Fitness Courts but also become a part of the local and regional cultural identity, reflecting the values unique to our community.
Steve Plumer, Park Planning and Development Manager, notes that this represents the inaugural call for artists initiated by The Parks, Arts and Recreation Department. “Having previously experienced success with designing traffic signal boxes, we are eager to harness that same enthusiasm and creativity from our community for this initiative. This is a platform for local artists to shine, spreading their talent throughout our six city parks. Grand Prairie is home to an abundance of gifted residents, and we’re delighted to seize this opportunity to showcase their exceptional artistry.”
Call for Artists
We invite Grand Prairie resident artists and art students to submit their entries for this exciting project. Each artist selected will have the opportunity to create a digital work of art to be featured on one of the Fitness Court’s training walls. To view examples of public art featured on Fitness Courts across the country, visit the National Fitness Campaign’s website.
For detailed entry guidelines, please review the Call for Artist Guidelines. Submissions are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, December 15, 2023. This is your chance to leave a lasting mark on your community and inspire a healthier and more artistic future.
Art has the power to breathe life into our fitness spaces, making them truly epic. This project strengthens our commitment to wellness and creates a lasting legacy of art within our community. Let’s come together to make fitness fun, artful, and accessible to everyone in Grand Prairie. We can’t wait to see your contributions to our Fitness Courts project!
