An Epic Remembrance: Remembering the true meaning of Memorial Day
May 20 – May 28 | All day
GrandLawn at EpicCentral
The True meaning of Memorial Day: This Installation of 400 American Flags will honor and remember the sacrifice of the heroes and families of The One Tribe Foundation’s WATCH (We Are The Children of Heroes) Program, and the fallen heroes from Grand Prairie
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to honor those in our Military who have died in service to the United States of America. During May (Memorial May), in the days leading up to Memorial Day, we also remember and honor our First Responders who have died while serving our communities.
A public community event in May, leading to Memorial Day. We invite families to come out and join us at The Epic in Grand Prairie to view patriotism at its finest and to remember and honor those men and women who have sacrificed all for our Country and communities. You can see the numbers on paper of how many men and women have died while serving our Country and our communities; however, when you see the numbers (although only a portion of the total) in American Flags, you have a powerful understanding of how much blood has been shed for our Country. And when you see the faces of the fallen heroes and the faces of their children and widows/widowers, their sacrifice becomes more personal. You have a deeper understanding of what true sacrifice looks like.
W-A-T-C-H (We Are The Children of Heroes) is a program of One Tribe Foundation, a highly rated DFW-based non-profit organization that serves Veterans, first responders, frontline healthcare workers, and their families. WATCH is a program of OTF that serves the children of America’s fallen heroes. We are based in DFW but serve children and families across the United States. We have about 300 families in our WATCH Program.
The Remembrance: We will install one American Flag to honor each of the fallen heroes whose children and families we have been honored to serve. Each flag pole will have a tribute card with the hero’s name, date of death, and other details to honor their service and sacrifice. In addition to the fallen heroes of our WATCH program, we will honor the Fallen Grand Prairie Police Officers who have been killed in the line of Duty, and those fallen military heroes from Grand Prairie who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. We will also install additional flags and invite families from Grand Prairie (and other communities) who have lost a family member while serving to visit the flag garden and add a tribute card to honor their hero.
Thank You: We wish to thank the City of Grand Prairie and the leadership of “EpicCentral” for their support of this remembrance.
